Description

18-24" tall x 24-36" wide. At last, the first truly short growing selection of Russian Sage, 'Lacey Blue' is half the height of 'Blue Spires' and fits into small spaces. With exceptionally large flower spikes, Perovskia atriplicifolia Lacy Blue is deer resistant, long blooming (from mid-summer through the fall), and thrives in any soil. Just grow it hot and dry once established. Most soil types including clay. Cut back entire plant back to 12” - 15” in spring (not in the fall) Good for Firescaping. Plant with Agastache, Achillea, Penstemon.

Tips for Growing Perovskia (Russian Sage)

Russian sage’s enormous popularity is no doubt due to its ability to thrive in dry, tough conditions. It blooms all summer and grows successfully in any soil, from clay to sand, as well as salty and highly alkaline ones. And if that weren’t reason enough to plant it, Perovskia is extremely resistant to browsing deer, rabbits and even elk.

Russian sage is a low care plant that looks its best when cut back hard (leaving 6 to 12” of stem above ground) in mid-spring. This keeps the plant more compact and encourages more vigorous blooming. This shrub has a tendency to spread by suckering, so it’s advisable to dig up the suckers in early spring to keep the plant within bounds. When used to cover large areas, don’t bother.

An application of Yum Yum Mix fertilizer in the fall is all that’s needed to keep the soil healthy and the plant happy.

"These plants arrived in good condition and were planted by a professional landscape service and they are about 10 months in the ground at this moment. They are still alive but are very small and haven't leafed out at all this summer. I am concerned that they will not make it through another winter. Most everything else that was planted along with it is growing and establishing itself in the garden, so I am unsure at the moment if I would or wouldn't recommend, however bc of High Country's customer service policy, I am selecting yes, as they are very easy to work with and are an excellent online garden supply company."

I Love this Plant

"I planted this dwarf Russian Sage in a raised bed by my vegetable garden. I do supplement water, as we sometimes go months without rain. It bloomed really well last year and is looking great and much bigger this year. (I'd guess about 20"" wide. ) I'm looking forward to the blooms in the next month or so."

Love these

"We got about 4 of these last spring. They were small at first and they needed watering and care the first year. After winter was over We trimmed off the tops (a little too short. oops) but they are twice as big now as they were at the peak of last year and it still isn't summer yet. We love them, they attracted so many of our neighbors bees and their dusty purple was a nice pop of color against our washed out house paint. We did tend to over water them at the beginning of this spring. When my sister told me to lay off the watering, I stopped for about a week and they started growing like crazy. So they can grow but very slowly if you over water them as well, just FYI. I water them about 1 time a week or whenever the tops seem a little droopy"
