Our Native Partial Shade Wildflower Seed Mix is a blend of 15 annual and perennial North American wildflowers that thrive with as little as 4 hours of sunlight per day. This diverse blend offers a stunning array of colors and textures which promises to transform the shaded area of your yard or garden into a lively haven for humans and wildlife alike.

Native wildflowers are hardy and resilient, well adapted to tough growing conditions, and they provide vital habitat and food sources for local insect populations. Though drought tolerant once mature, wildflowers need regular water to become established.

A blend of annuals and perennials provide season-long nectar and beauty year after year. Annuals bloom in the first year bringing an explosion of color, while perennials start blooming in seasons two or three and continue for years to come. In the right conditions, annuals may reseed, naturalizing and spreading over time. High Country Gardens seed mixes contain 100% seed with no fillers, and all seeds are non-GMO, neonicotinoid-free, and guaranteed to grow.

Planting & Care

Step-by-Step Wildflower Seed Planting Instructions

  1. Check for your last frost date and plant after this has passed. Choose a
    spot on your property that gets 6 or more hours of direct sun a day unless you are planting seeds for shade.
  2. Prepare your soil by clearing the area of all existing growth. Simply dig up everything that is growing, turn the soil and rake the area flat. If this is an area that has never before been gardened, you may need to till the area up to remove growth.
  3. Mix the seeds with sand* for better visibility and scatter the seeds directly on top of the soil. If you are sowing a larger area, we recommend using a seed spreader; if not, you can sow by hand.
  4. We recommend lightly compressing the seeds into the soil, making sure not to bury them. You can either walk on them, use a board or if you are sowing a larger area, rent a seed roller.
  5. Water so that the soil is moist, not soaking wet, until the seedlings are about 4-6" tall. After that, the seedlings will survive on natural rains. If you are experiencing very dry weather, we recommend watering occasionally.
