It really is dog-tough!

"Growing up in the high desert you only ever dream of a real lawn. Well I'm on my way to having one! I have six dogs and can a test that this is dog tough. Although, this is not an area of the yard, they spend much time in but they do run through it and it's doing great. This is year two two and I planted two flats. I think I've only lost one or two plugs over the winter. Can't wait for it to fill in and add more to other areas!"

The dogs love it!

"Holds up nice in Salt Lake City. It took ours 2 months to fully establish. Watered two times a day until established. Planted July 2025"

Finally!!! I got a small area of low maintenance grass

"I xeriscaped most of my yard but wanted a small area of grass to sit on and enjoy. We have two dogs. I've tried the grass seed from HCG for a few years but it didnt work. These plugs are TIME CONSUMING to plant and weed in the beginning but so worth it. I wish I had found the multiple page instructions before ordering so I would have had the 4-6 weeks to till the area twice. I spent many hours weeding (two audiobooks worth!) but just 2 months later and exactly what I wanted. I'm watering about twice a week in the heat of the summer. Looking forward to seeing how it returns next year I've had multiple friends come over and ask me for the info"

Even ADHD won't kill it

"I planted a bunch of these grass plugs last year, then ran out of dopamine and forgot to water them before they could spread out. I thought they were dead, but a big chunk of them survived somehow and have absolutely thrived this year! Watering the survivors has made them spread out and fill in really nicely, my dogs are thrilled about having grass in their former dirt patch."

The perfect solution for my yard.

"The dog tuff I installed last year struggled to overcome very bad alkaline clay, but is still performing as well as can be expected. BUT the plugs I ordered this spring and installed in much better soil in my front yard are thriving! The plugs are bright green, healthy and well on their way to cover the section of the lawn, and have already at least twice their size. I think by fall the lawn will be nearly completely filled in. I'll be happy to share photos by the middle of September."

Looking fine so far

"I received these with perfect instructions, 100% looking very healthy. I planted them and we had several hard freezes (just above 20 F) but plenty of rain. They all look like the roots are well established, so I expect them to green up and begin to spread when it's warm."

I love this grass

"So, this stuff works, and if you're looking for a low maintenance lawn that has somewhat of a more naturalistic look, it's great. It will NOT however look like a perfect manicured lawn, if that's what you want -- at least, it might if you mowed it. We don't mow it, and it ends up getting pretty tall but not bad. I really like the look, it is ultra soft and fluffy grass, and sort of makes little rolling, fluffy mounds, very pretty and Hobbit-like, as if it's lawn from the Shire. My dogs absolutely LOVE rolling around in this grass because it's so soft and fluffy. We found that the instructions were not quite right for us, as we should have planted the plugs earlier. It said the first week of June, but that was too late for our very hot summer climate, and we ended up having to put up shade cloth or the plugs would have all scorched and dried out. Once we did that, it was fine, but the areas without shade cloth didn't make it. Still, it filled in very nicely within about two months. This year, we added some more plugs in the areas where the shade cloth didn't cover and that didn't fill in last year, but we did it in April instead of June, and that worked great. It is now completely filled in. A lawn you don't have to mow, that looks pretty and soft and green and natural -- what could be better. I will say that it is NOT drought tolerant the first year, and needs quite a bit of water to get going. More like a regular lawn. But I expect that now that the plugs are established and we are finishing out our second year, it will need much less water. Looking forward to increased drought tolerance. There are some weeds here and there, but honestly not as many as I would have thought, given that we use no chemicals on it. The grass is hardy and tough and chokes out most of the weeds just on its own, even though we had a bunch of compost-rich open soil there for a while. I love this lawn! It is a bunch of work to put the plugs in initially, but totally worth it."

Definitely works if you follow instructions

"Planted this dog grass on the side of our house. Before it was just gravel with clay under it. Very hard crappy soil. I got some good garden soil 40 bags I believe and raked and tilled it into my soil. I then watered it for about 2 weeks to help break up the clay. In planting day I just used my weeding tool to poke 144 holes in the ground roughly 12-18"" apart and pressed them all in by hand. It's full sun and super hot. Grass seems to love it."

Jury""s out

"It's been a cold wet year. Won't break 65 degrees today (30th if June) Haven't lost a plug but some ryegrass seed I planted elsewhere has left in the dust. Of course ryegrass can't we I thstsnd our pets. I'll reserve judgement till next year"

Didn't lose a single plug

"This grass is great! We installed an Underlawn watering system to avoid evaporation and found that it needed to be top watered a few times a week so the little shoots had soft ground to plant into, but other than that, excellent grass. It took some doing to keep up on the weeding until the grass could grow in, but we didn't lose a single plug. Every single one grew and was healthy. These plugs are incredibly healthy and hardy. #sweepstakes"
