Description

24-36" tall. Double Tuberose (Polianthes) is a double-flowered cultivar, also known as The Pearl, and has fragrant, creamy-white flowers on tall stems above clumps of grass-like foliage. Double Tuberose is a wonderful cut flower for long-lasting flower arrangements. Perfect for patio pots. Plant in well-drained soil in full sun in spring once soil temperatures reach 60 degrees Fahrenheit and all danger of frost has passed. Cold hardy in zones 7-10; grow as an annual in colder zones. Continue planting every two weeks through the end of July to extend blooming throughout summer.

Planting & Care

Plant in fertile, compost-enriched well-drained soil in a sunny to light shade location in the spring once danger of frost has passed. Planted in the spring, they will usually flower in late summer. With a head start indoors, or if they overwinter, they may start flowering by early summer. Hardy in zones 8-10, Tuberose flowers best when the bulbs are lifted in the fall even where hardy, and stored to be re-planted in the spring. After flowers are spent and foliage is yellowed, simply dig the bulbs and dry them for 7-10 days. Store in a cool (50°F) location and re-plant after the danger of frost has passed in the spring. For earlier flowers in northern areas, start your Tuberose indoors for an early start to sweet fragrance and lovely flowers.
