Description

‘Orange Pitcher’ Calla Lilies add a splash of color to any garden or patio display. Calla Lilies are striking additions to perennial and container gardens and make exquisite floral arrangements. Calla bulbs are easy-to-grow and will result in regal blooms in just over two months. Callas are favored for their foliage, which is lush with glossy, heart-shaped or pointed leaves, often flecked with white spots.

Native to South Africa, Calla Lilies grow best in full sun with moist soil. Some protection from intense afternoon sun is best to avoid burning the foliage. Growing them in containers where they can be easily watered is recommended in dry climates. In hot climates the plant will go dormant in summer after flowering. Callas are only hardy in zones 8-10. In cooler zones, lift and store the bulbs in a cool, dry place over the winter, then replanted in in spring.

Planting & Care

Summer Blooming Bulbs, including popular varieties such as gladiolus and dahlias, are planted in the spring and bloom in the summer. Most of these bulbs are tropical and require warm weather to be planted. There must not be any danger of frost and your ground temperature must have reached 55 degrees Fahrenheit before planting. Many of our summer blooming bulbs can be planted as perennials in zones 9-10 (zone 8 if mulched) but should be treated as annuals in cooler climates. You can lift them and store them in the fall, or bring patio pots inside before frost.

These tender bulbs can be planted in pots or in the ground. Calla Lily bulbs can be planted as perennials in zones 9-10 (zone 8 if mulched) but should be treated as annuals in cooler climates. You can lift them and store them in the fall, or bring patio pots inside before frost. Calla Lily bulbs quickly create a sizable plant, often growing to 36" high.
