Veronica x 'Blue Yonder' PP#27,284 (Creeping Speedwell) is a new hybrid speedwell that covers itself with deep blue flower spikes in mid-spring over low growing mats of beautiful deep green foliage.
Veronica x 'Blue Yonder' PP#27,284 (Creeping Speedwell) is a stunning garden hybrid Speedwell that blooms in mid- to late spring with a profusion of deep blue flower spikes held above a handsome mat of deep green foliage. "In my thirty plus years of gardening, it's flowers are the showiest of all the groundcover Veronica that I have grown," said HCG founder and chief horticulturist David Salman. A fantastic groundcover to plant with spring flowering bulbs; the blue makes the bulb flowers really "pop"! Discovered in the gardens by the folks at Laporte Avenue Nursery of Ft. Collins, CO.
Flat of 32 plants will cover 27-32 square feet when planted together

great plant
"Here in southern Vermont at 1700 feet, I planted in fairly free-draining soil in full sun, some around boulders forming a raised bed retaining wall and flat steps. Plants took a year to establish and get ready to bloom which is to be expected. Now they are spreading and carpeted with flowers in late spring. Hardiness has not been a problem."

Surviving, but not thriving. . . .
"I purchased 7 of the Blue Yonder and two months later, only 5 have survived. I planted them in full sun with some afternoon shade. The ones that are planted in more shade are surviving, although small. The two that we planted in almost round the clock sun dried up in our 88 degree heat and died despite watering 3-4 times per week. HCG issued me a credit for the two that died very graciously. You might try more filtered shade with these plants. They are a little delicate."

Hope for blooms spring '17
"I bought six plants and the four which survived are seemingly thriving although very small. Since I love this blue, I am eager to see some blooms next spring. If they come anywhere near the picture, I'll buy more."
— Happy S. (3/5)
