"I took a chance on this because of the long-flowering period and pretty colour. It is thriving on a sun/part sun slope that is zone 3a. The wind is unforgiving in winter. The soil is quite rich because of amendments but tends towards alkaline. I wish I could find more as I would like to have a group of 3. Alas, the growers do not often supply it. Pleasantly surprising."
Alpine Rock Thyme is an Old World native from the mountains of Italy and southern Europe, making it an outstanding rock garden or xeriscape perennial. It thrives in sunny, dry, poor soil conditions. It has large, showy purple flowers that bloom in summer, and attractive small glossy green foliage that grows low-to-the-ground. It's an excellent nectar source for honeybees. Recommended companion plants include other small growing rock garden plants like Firewitch Dianthus, Bluebells (Campanula) and Greek yarrow (Achillea).
