Great mix
"Great mix of plants! I was a bit disappointed in the plant stock as a lot of the plants had been potted up from plugs and weren't given time to fill out their new pots before being shipped out so there was soil everywhere and despite the packaging they were pretty battered from shipping. I also ordered a pre-planned garden and one of the shrubs in that was flat out dead, the roots weren't viable. There was a sticker that said plant stock may be dormant, but this was flat out not coming back."

They were small but healthy and did really well first year
"They are still small this first year but doing well. The fernbush have been especially vigorous"

Three wonderful species!
"We have these three bushes in our yard and they are exactly as low maintenance, beautiful and drought tolerant as described! I love the darling, three lobed leaves of the rhus trilobata. And how in late, late fall they turn a striking scarlet color which complements wonderfully the vibrant yellow of the late season rabbit brush blooms. And the fernbush leaves are so fun, too. They remind one of fern fronds or even of some primitive, miniature palm trees. The rabbitbrush stays handsome even while dormant in the winter. The Tan/Wheat colored seedpods are just beautiful after the flowers have faded. And during the cold weather, overwintering birds and other critters will use the dormant branches of all three as windbreak, shelter and protection from predators. We have birds and other small creatures year around now in our habitat friendly landscape thanks to High Country Gardens! They are such a joy, especially when the terrain appears dead and yet wildlife persists. And it is so exciting in the early spring to see the leaves return on these three excellent plants! What has helped these bushes be successful for us: We planted on a slope for good drainage and in full sun. The rabbitbrush especially seems to require full sun. And we made a small well or depression in the soil around the plant to hold just a little bit of water for a few minutes after watering, to thoroughly soak the roots during the settling in period. We mulched around the bushes with a few inches of leaves to protect the roots from cold and hot temperature extremes. We watered more frequently during the new plants' first seasons to accelerate growth. They don't need much water at all to survive, but to become larger it does seem to help to water during the growing season. Since all three of these go dormant in the winter, I like to plant along with evergreens and/or early bloomers such as crocus, Daffodils, tulips etc. It's also fun to layer with some fall blooming bulbs."
