6-9’ tall x 5-8’ wide. Philadelphus lewisii Cheyenne® (Mock Orange) is an award-winning native shrub grown for its amazing display of large, white fragrant late spring flowers. Cheyenne® is a Plant Select® winner chosen for its exceptional toughness and adaptability to a wide range of growing conditions. It was also selected as the High Country Gardens Plant Of The Year in 2020.
Growing in most any type of soil, including clay, this large growing shrub enjoys both sun and partial shade. Late spring blooms and fragrance make this plant especially bee-friendly. Recommended companions include other shrubs like Caryopteris and large ornamental grasses like Panicum (Prairie switchgrass).

"I ordered the box of nine "Cheyenne" Mock Orange after searching Idaho nurseries without success for its state shrub in 2024. As other reviews state they were small and very slow to develop. I learned about its story at the Cheyenne Botanic Garden and I am sold. I planted 8 this spring and four of them teased us with flowers. I am very pleased with them."
"Mock Orange is one of those hardy shrubs that make beautiful backgrounds for pictures of children. It will grow and grow for years, without any special care. You do have to watch out for vines like honeysuckle. Don't let them invade your yard. I am so lucky that I found the Cheyenne Mock Orange to replace all the bushes that had been invaded by honeysuckle. I cleaned my flowerbeds down to the ground and started over. The new plants arrived healthy and green, and I planted them right away. Now they are growing and putting out new growth. I look forward to next spring and my new Cheyenne Mock Orange."

"I'm so glad I decided to buy more of these Mock Orange shrubs. When I first got them, I thought, ""There's no way these puny things are going to survive. "" I planted them back in March—yes, I know, that wasn't the smartest move since we hadn't even had our last frost yet. You're probably thinking, ""What a rookie mistake!"" and honestly, you'd be right. But these little troopers have been incredibly forgiving. They've endured their last snow of the season, survived a run-in with an overexcited cattle dog, nearly drowned from a surprise hose leak, and baked under the Arizona sun—and they're still thriving. In fact, they're rewarding me with beautiful blossoms! That's right—blossoms! Now I have a total of six of these delightful shrubs, all purchased through HCG, and I absolutely adore them!"
"I ordered one to go in a shady area, my order contained one healthy looking one, and a bonus sad/sickly looking one. I put them both in the ground in different parts of the yard. Now 3+ years later they are both full and healthy and had a wonderful bloom this spring. I honestly can't remember which one was the sad one. They are about 4 feet tall now, after starting off less than a foot tall, and I am hoping they start to gain some more height in the next year or so."
"These arrived as bare root. . . . and a very tiny bare root (about 1 inch) at that. It took a while (about 1 month) for them to wake up and do anything but now they are 2 inches are have fresh vibrant leaves on the tiny plants. I would have hoped to have gotten a bit more plant for the money, but by the end of the summer my guess is that they will have caught up to something shipped at twice the size. Will update later in the season but very satisfied at this point."
"Sadly this arrived absolutely tiny with half the leaves dead. I do not think this will survive. I am in a microclimate and I am a zone 4 but hardiness zones put me at a 5. My entire order shipped at a zone 6 which is way too early for these plants to go outside. Im not sure they will survive being in the house 2 months. I am afraid all of the plants I ordered (10 total) will all perish. I wish it was possible to pick your own zone at checkout instead of relying on hardiness zones based on zip code. very disappointed. I cannot plant it outside as it will freeze."
"I dont know why it took me so long to find this fabulous shrub that will tolerate shade! I have a large area that has partial shade and didnt know what to plant until this spring when I found this Mock Orange. Planted it just 2 months ago and its growing fast and strong in soil is very infertile. Cant wait to see and smell those lovely white flowers!"
"I bought it years ago from you. It looked so little when it arrived . Now it is a full sized shrub. It's blooming now and smells amazing! It's a great shrub. I don't have to do anything for it and it's thriving. I haven't turned my sprinklers on in years so it's surviving on rain. I live in Boulder Co. highly recommend!"
"Because of our wierd spring weather I had to keep the last order in the house for a spell, then acclimated it on the porch, and finally planted all last week. I used a little SuperThrive when watering and all look really good when they got into the ground. Since planting the wind has been outrageous, but plants are holding well. I have wire cages around the taller ones to help out. The Mock Orange looks especially energetic."
