How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
48" tall x 48" wide, (seed propagated). This is one of the showiest of our native shrubs. Everblooming with white, five-petaled flowers, Apache Plume really stands out when the pink, silky plumed seed heads are formed and cover the tips of the branches for many months. Striking when underplanted with low growing ground cover junipers. A moderate to rapid grower in any well-drained soil.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. "Unfortunately, everything died. I improved the soil either with amendments or perlite and still had 100% failure."
"The plants look very healthy even after shipping. The box arrived upside down and there was lots of dirt everywhere. Three broken plants and all but not your fault. I’ve potted them all up and after two days, they look like they’re recovering nicely."
"It arrived healthy, thank you"
"This is my fourth summer with a High Country Gardens Apache Plume. It's a beautiful, unique plant. I was worried it wouldn't tolerate our damp maritime climate, and so I planted it in a medium size wooden planter in 50% sand/gravel 50% soil, in a fully exposed spot. It's a beautiful, airy plant, and the white flowers are really remarkable. Sadly it appears that it needs a mate in order to produce the plumes, and unsurprisingly there are none around. Wish I could order a few more to attempt a love connection! It appreciates water more than you'd think, and does die back at the tips, which helps it develop a more full form. Winter stems are white. Highly recommend!"
"Planted this in my yard (from your company 15 + years ago. Ordered 3 new baby ones from you this season and they are looking good for a farm transplant to a wildlife area."
"Customer service was quick to respond when I had issues. I will shop here again when I am ready."
"Just wanted to show you how well the Apache plume bushes are doing which I planted in the fall of 2016. They are all alive and make so many flowers and beautiful seed heads throughout the entire growing season. They can be trimmed or left wild. There's quite a bit of individual variation, some of mine, make much more pink tinged seed heads, and others make almost white seed heads. They have started to propagate new bushes from seeds. I never water, only mulch."
"I planted the Apache Plume on May 15, and after a few very hot, dry summer months, it has already grown quite a bit on its east-facing slope at this point in mid-August, flowering and showing off beautiful plumes. I'm thrilled for this one!"
"This came very small but grew very well for us. We put it in an inhospitable rock bed, put a cage around it and a drip line on it, then ignored it."
"Right now it's in a pot to get it bigger before transplanting to it permanent place. I wasn't sure it was going to live, the plants are small when they arrive and I lost several because they did not arrive in good condition."
