"I have a bunch of gardens planted around my house after a devastating fire, to help the bees and hummingbirds. I ordered a few of these creepers to place above retaining walls and to add a pop of color. Mine are planted in full sun, 5550 feet elevation. They grew quickly and flowered the latter part of July. Attaching a pic of the plant at 2. 5 months old. Will order more."

"I've had these quite a few years, never water them anymore and they bloom from late June till frost even in our drought years. They spread a good bit by runners, if you plant them in a rock garden with other small plants you'll have to pull a decent bit every year or they might dominate your other plants, I take the majority of them and pot them up for a couple months to better develop roots than plant them out in different spots of the garden and give a few to neighbors each spring. This species(Epilobium canum var. garrettii) grows all the way from Joshua tree national park where average precip is 8"" and summers are hot and winters are mild, all the way to Yellowstone where precipitation is 30"", summers are mild and winters are brutally cold… I mention this because this plant is extremely adaptable to different conditions. Grows best for me in full sun and little to no supplemental water, also seems to grow better on a slope or rocky area. Sorry for the photo overload…."
"I have had this plant in my front garden which faces west and it does terrific, I love this plant but find it hard to find in nurseries and bigger sizes without spending alot. But, I always look for it and but in when I can. I have some in planters and some in hanging pots on my patio. You can never go wrong with this plant and the hummingbirds love it."
2001 Plant Select Winner This superb Hummingbird Trumpet spreads like a groundcover to form a loose mat of low growing, bright green foliage. In mid-to-late summer it lights up the garden with a profusion of bright-orange flowers that last for many weeks. Regular watering when in bloom keeps the flowers coming. Plant in well-drained, compost-enriched soil. 'Orange Carpet' prefers some afternoon shade, especially at lower elevations. Originally selected by David Salman of High Country Gardens.
