Description

(34-38" tall x 12-24" wide) 'Swingtown' Fragrant Bearded Iris adds a lively note of plum colored ruffled flowers to the late-spring to early-summer garden. With strong stems that produce three branches and 7-9 buds each, this robust bloomer offers full throttle color. With a lavender fragrance, itā€™s a great accent plant to complement Salvia, Baptisia, Columbine, Foxglove, and Oriental Poppies. The sword-like green vertical foliage adds another striking element to the garden. Use as a focal point in a rock garden or entry where its height and deep color can shine. Great cut flowers too! Lasting 3-7 days, harvest when buds have fully emerged and are showing color. A favorite pollinator plant, itā€™s a drought-tolerant hardy garden perennial once established. Deer and rabbits avoid this plant. Plant in a sunny location in enriched garden soil. Place the rhizomes just below the soil level in hot climates, and just above in moderate to cool climates. Cut or snap off spent blooms for a tidy look, and cut finished stems off at the base to keep plants healthy.
