Like a sunrise, ‘Early to Rise’ Bearded Iris (Iris germanica) washes your garden bed in a golden glow that will harmonize with the plants around them. Sweetly fragrant and a vigorous bloomer, this golden beauty features peachy-yellow standards over golden falls with bright tangerine beards, its bright blooms filling the garden from May to June. With smooth, strapping foliage adding interest after flowers have faded, Bearded Irises are a drought-tolerant, easy-care garden staple.
‘Early To Rise’ Bearded Iris adds a touch of golden-yellow to the late spring and early summer garden. Sweetly fragrant, ‘Early To Rise’ is a prolific bloomer with dramatic, showy flowers. Easy to grow, plant them in a sunny spot with good drainage, in groups of three or more for best interest. Keep the top of the rhizomes exposed or even with the top of the soil. Once established, Bearded Irises are drought-tolerant, deer resistant, and rabbit resistant, and will spread and multiply when happy. Once flowers have faded, this versatile plant’s eye-catching vertical foliage will continue to enhance the perennial garden. Plant with ornamental grasses and other water-thrifty, late spring bloomers such as Allium and Oriental Poppies. Lavender, Gaillardia, Echinacea, and Salvia will benefit from the striking foliage as a backdrop.

Squirrel warning for young tubers
"I ordered about 10 bearded iris tubers. They arrived at planting time and were nice and healthy. I planted half on one side of my yard and half on the other. In two days squirrels devoured all of the tubers on one side of the yard (caught them red handed). I covered the remaining tubers with cayenne pepper and as we approach winter the tubers are thriving. Neighbors have mature iris' and the squirrels don't bother them. Just a heads up to others who have a hardy squirrel population!"
