Reviews
Tiny plant
"Very small plant. About 2 or 3" tall and hasnt transplanted well. Im waiting to see if it will come back. Everything else I ordered has done well. I ended up buying another one from a local greenhouse and it was about 10" tall. Very suprised at the size difference. Planted on west facing . It is on heavy clay with a fast draining top soil."

Just lovely
"Those little 5" have done amazgly. A ear laer, they are about 6" aroun and 3' all. The only reason I didn;t give them a 5 is we lost about 25% of them over winter from teh same bed. So they did not prove as tough in gettnig stared as imagined."
— Ginger (4/5)
This plant is aggressive. BEWARE!
"Please be aware that Russian Sage is highly aggressive in the garden. Not officially categorized as invasive but is almost impossible to remove entirely once it is established. The roots are woody and travel throughout the garden. I put in Russian Sage in 2009 as part of a planned garden from High Country Gardens and no warning was given to me about how to control this plant. I am still, all these years later, trying to dig up the many roots. I will need a backhoe to really remove all of it."

"I love Russian Sages, they take little care to look amazing. These are a little smaller than I expected but hopefully they will grow quickly."

Perfect shape!
"My plant arrived in great condition. It is green, healthy, and took planting well."
— Susie (5/5)
Amazing!
"I planted a row of these along a fence in a hot, dry area that gets a lot of sun and not much water. They have thrived and look amazing."
— Colorado G. (5/5)
Pollinator Paradise!
"I added this plant to my garden in spring of 2021 and it has done amazing! So well that I planted 3 more this past fall. Every time I walk by the plant is just humming with bees and insects. And the smell is just amazing! The extended bloom makes sure you always have color in your garden. Once it was established it has done really well in our hot and dry summers here in the west. I couldn't recommend this plant enough if you are looking to fill in some larger spaces!"

Slow Starter to Showstopper
"I've planted Blue Spires from HCG multiple times over 3 years. The starts ship small and stay small for their first season but they come back with everything they got the next season. BIG impact, just not immediate. Easiest plants in my garden. Bees love these."
— Xty (5/5)
I am going to purchase these plants again nest spring
"These plants are growing very good for the most part. There are 3 that are very slow to get growing but they are still alive."
Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Blue Spire' (Russian Sage), a European cultivar, is a vigorous, well-shaped grower with attractive dark-blue flower spikes. Russian Sage has taken the gardening world by storm, rising from obscurity to enormous popularity in the past decade. Along the way, however, a number of different forms of the plant were introduced, resulting in a variety of good and not-so-good Russian Sage plants. Good for Firescaping.
Russian sage’s enormous popularity is no doubt due to its ability to thrive in dry, tough conditions. It blooms all summer and grows successfully in any soil, from clay to sand, as well as salty and highly alkaline ones. And if that weren’t reason enough to plant it, Perovskia is extremely resistant to browsing deer, rabbits and even elk.
Russian sage is a low care plant that looks its best when cut back hard (leaving 6 to 12” of stem above ground) in mid-spring. This keeps the plant more compact and encourages more vigorous blooming. This shrub has a tendency to spread by suckering, so it’s advisable to dig up the suckers in early spring to keep the plant within bounds. When used to cover large areas, don’t bother.
An application of Yum Yum Mix fertilizer in the fall is all that’s needed to keep the soil healthy and the plant happy.
