The flower spikes of Agastache 'Desert Solstice' (Hummingbird Mint) are remarkable for their fullness, large size, and exotic colorization. The plant is like a semi-dwarf form of our best selling 'Desert Sunrise' but with more flowers. A High Country Gardens introduction.

Great plant

"Healthy plant seems very strong very green and already fills its space Excited to see it bloom."

First year, but doing well!

"I have three of these, one I bought local in a gallon pot, the other two from HCG in the 4"" pots. It's hard to tell which one was in the gallon, so it's clear these were very robust plants from High Country. They aren't blooming just yet,, but are well branches and getting ready to blossom in the next few weeks."

Fabulous Plant

"One year ago I bought 9 of these and without question they became my favorite plant of the year. I've planted another 9 this year. The blooms are thicker than some Agastache, the aroma is fabulous, the pink is very bright and they can grow in very infertile soil. My first batch of 9 were planted quite far from the house, but non-the-less the flowers were very visible. The pollinators also love them which makes them truly worthy of the five star stats I'm giving them"

Yes, Agastache grows in the humid, rainy deep south!

"I waited a year before reviewing to see how Agastache did in my humid southeast climate. The ""xeric"" description made me uneasy at first, since that sounds like those plants hate water and can only grow in a literal desert. I can now say that's not true at all. Yes, I have mine growing in the hottest, driest part of the perennial bed in my backyard where even coneflowers struggle to survive but it's possible to grow them here. The first Agastache plants I bought as a test last spring survived this past year perfectly fine and are now getting ready to wake up for spring. If they can make it here, they should be fine anywhere! The trick to growing Agastache in wetter climates is drainage. It rains often here and I can't control that, but that doesn't matter if the soil dries out in-between. During summer thunderstorms every few days there is often an inch or more of rain that puddles on the ground, but the important thing is the excess water doesn't stick around for long. The ground stays moist in the winter (the Agastache plants don't seem to mind when they're dormant) but dries out fast between rains once the weather warms up in the spring. Try growing Agastache on a slope where water can run off. Also, I'm growing mine in soil I'm gradually improving with leaf mulch (as described on the Grow It Build It website) and the plants seem to love it. My clay has disappeared and while the soil is still a little bit sandy it is much less compacted and water drains through it quickly. Leaves are full of nutrients so I need less fertilizer than I used to."

Happy Hummingbirds

"These plants did very well, despite a very hot NM summer. The hummingbirds were thrilled."

Roadrunner (5/5)

Hummingbird moth favorite

"This agastache is lovely in large plantings."

Nice plant

"I grow everything in containers with MiracleGrow potting soil. The plant grew quickly, bloomed heavily two months after receipt, with blossoms smelling like bubble gum. I grow exclusively for bees of all kindsn and unfortunately, this plant's flowers are too long and narrow for any bees. It should attract hummingbirds, but mine have ignored it, perhaps because it is too low to the ground. The plant doesn't like full sun here at 6000 feet - I would recommend about four hours of sun a day with moderate water. A good plant, but I will give it to a friend at the end of the season."

Desert Solstice Agastache

"This plant is doing well however, it is still small in size and has no color to it yet."
