A new native hybrid sage, Salvia FlowerKisser® 'Royal Rose’ is enjoyed for its sumptuous deep rose pink flowers. This Salvia is an exceptionally long bloomer, attracting pollinating hummingbirds and bumblebees from late spring through early fall. The foliage is delightfully aromatic, releasing a pleasing sweet herbal scent when brushed or touched. Discovered by HCG Chief Horticulturist David Salman, and available exclusively from High Country Gardens.

Wondering What I Did Wrong

"I planted two of these at the back of a new xeric bed. The first year they did really well, the flowers were beautiful and attracted lots of bees and hummingbirds. But this year they never came up. I finally pulled the dead plant bases - which were pretty sturdy/woody after only one year of growth - in June. Could they have needed more water during the winter? Any other recommendations before I purchase replacements?"

Healthy Salvia Color Addition For Front Yard

"My front yard is mostly shaded throughout the day courtesy of a large elm tree and needed some color accents near our front door and salvia are perfect for the job. My plant arrived healthy and well-packaged and was a nice size in terms of height and leaf arrangement right out of the box. It is thriving in its chosen spot based on its care requirements and has nearly doubled in size since it was planted about a month ago. It's getting ready to bloom soon, a sure sign that it's happy where it's placed and establishing well. #sweepstakes"

Thriving in Iowa hummingbird garden

"Living in Iowa (Zone 5), I am thrilled that High Country's Royal Rose Salvia survived the winter - so thrilled that I ordered more this spring to put in my hummingbird garden. If you like the Windwalker Royal Red salvia, you will likely enjoy the Royal Rose Salvia - they are so pretty when they bloom together. #sweepstakes"

I can hardly wait for this to bloom!

"I ordered this in the hopes it will get tall enough for the hummingbirds to get nectar from the flowers. #sweepstakes"

Hummingbirds like it

"I was trying to get a replacement for a plant that died but was out of stock, and asked a representative over the phone, I need less than one foot tall, native, purple, early summer blooming. The representative suggested this(even though it really doesn't match what I said hardly at all 😂) but I said yes to this one and just put it somewhere else. I don't really expect it to overwinter even being in a microclimate with great drainage, but I figured it would be a good choice because most salvia Gregii cultivars make great annuals…well, this one hasn't been as robust the first year as all the others I've tried to be honest, but the color is an extremely vivid deep pink, and even though it has only had a handful of flowers at once at any point so far, the hummingbirds at my place pretty regularly go for it anyways. Would highly recommend in a slightly warmer climate."

"Doing great. Even had a few flowers this year."

Very reliable zone 5

"I was a little reluctant to purchase this type of salvia because most don't survive our winters here, but this one came back, big and healthy. It's late June and starting to bloom. Thank you Dave Salman for all the amazing plants I've received from you thru the years 👩‍🌾"

Beautiful colored flowers.

"One out of two survived; the one that did was the most vigorous of my new Salvia selections. Beautiful colored flowers which I have high hopes of being a wonderful pollinator plant. I'm curious to see which pollinators visit. Hopefully the plant will attract the insects as much as it does me."

All five are thriving, with three blooming well

"Using as border plants along a walkway - Hoping to keep them alive over winter to see their beautiful foliage and blossoms again in spring!"
