How do we use your location?

15-24" tall x 18" wide. The roadsides of northeastern New Mexico light
up with color in midsummer when large stands of Prairie Coneflower come
into bloom. This drought tolerant plant is easy to establish and
naturalizes readily so you can grow your own stand of wildflowers.
'Mexican Hat' is a heavy bloomer, with a mature plant producing hundreds
of flowers with the distinctive mahogany-red petals edged in yellow.
Native. Low fertility, well drained soil. (seed propagated)

"I purchased one of these and it seemed to do fine last year. It died in the late fall and as of today, May 10, no spring growth. I did save some seeds so will try again."
"All of the plants are growing and are nearing bloom time. So far, so good. ."
"I loved they were a different color from one's I could buy near me."
"I'm constantly adding new varieties of plants that hummers love, but this plant kept holding my interest because it's so cute. So I added it to my list. It had done beautifully and is so adorable when blooming. I will want more next Spring!"
"I planted the prairie coneflower in two, large mixed flower beds to: add color and a later blooming plant to extend seasonal color; add another source of nectar for butterflies and other pollinators. I'm looking forward to how they grow and interact in the space."
"This plant grew a lot and flowered for a long night period. Very impressed."
"these did well for me"
"Very attractive. Was full of blooms that last a long time"
"I love this plant and was hoping it would keep returning. The first year it was great and very healthy. Since then it is a bit puny and certainly not a big naturalizer. I am not giving up yet because I like it, but had hoped for more vigor"
"I planted three mexican hats in April and then several more in May and June. The original three from April were slow to start with very few, semi-brown leaves. I doubted they would survive. By July, two of the three are about 12-14 inches tall and budding. The third is still small and lagging behind. The others are growing, but slowly. Water seems to be very critical in the first year to get them established."
