How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
High Country Gardens Founder, David Salman, spent decades growing Penstemons for Southwestern gardens, and Penstemon pinifolius was on the top of his list of favorite plants. Penstemon pinifolius is a great choice to pair with Lavender, Hymenoxys, Agave, and other cacti and succulents in xeric gardens. In nature, this species is variable across its range in the mountains of southwestern New Mexico and eastern Arizona, where healthy, long-lived plants healthy thrive for up to a decade or longer.
Plants in the FlowerKisser® series have been selected by High Country Gardens Founder David Salman. These new perennial introductions are particularly nectar-rich and attract many pollinators, including honey bees, native bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. The name “flower-kisser” is the translation of “beja-flor,”the Portuguese word for hummingbird!

"The jury is still out. As I had reported, the entire order was not in very good shape when I received it. There were four different plants in the order. There are several that are struggling to recover. These still have the greenery that they came with, but don't seem to be growing much beyond that. So, still waiting to see what develops."
"It is planted along the driveway at the end of a row of dwarf boxwoods but would look great in multiple locations."
