'Blaze' Little Bluestem Grass is grown for its exceptional fall color. A tall upright warm-season ornamental grass, Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blaze' mixes in nicely with flowering perennials and its grass blades turn deep red in the fall maturing to a pink winter color. Drought resistant perennial plant (xeric).

Description

24-36" tall x 15" wide (seed propagated).'Blaze' Little Bluestem grass is invaluable in xeriscapes and native wildflower plantings, plus it has great winter color! A cultivar selected by agronomists in NE as a high yielding pasture grass, Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blaze' is also used ornamentally for its vivid red fall foliage. In winter it remains a standout as the leaves fade to deep pink. Blaze Little Bluestem grass is easily grown and adapts to any soil type, including clay.

Flat of 9 plants will cover 12 square feet when planted together

"The 1st thing is that it took 5 days to receive my order of 3 Little bluestem grasses. When I open the box the soil was sitting on top of the grasses the roots were still intact so I did plant them, not sure yet how they will do. I was highly disappointed in the size of the plant, one of them had just 2 small stems of grass the other two were not much better. I was highly disappointed in how these were packed, the soil should have been enclosed with plastic wrap. I had ordered plants before online and never had I received anything like you sent me. This was my last order with you."

Perfect!

"Love that HighCountry continues to provide excellent quality nativars for my region (South East)! Inspired by the High Country catalog/western examples we've been working on a southern version of the inferno strip native garden for hot, humid weather and clay soil here in Virginia. "I used four of these for a patio edge feature. One arrived mostly brown and did not grow, but was promptly replaced by HCG. They haven't been fast growers but look healthy overall. I expect better, faster growth late this season and next."

I have not had good luck with this plant

"I received 3 of these grasses as part of a planned garden. 1 grew feebly, and the other 2 died. High Country Gardens was very good about replacing the 2 dead plants. Only one of those grew, and it's feeble, too. Everything else in that planned garden has done very well. I would not recommend this grass based on my experience."
