Lewisia cotyledon 'Sunset Strain' (Bitterroot) is a perennial coveted by in-the-know gardeners. Spectacular in flower, long-lived, and unique, this resilient native cultivar thrives in fast-draining gravelly sites and low fertility soil. With its compact form, it is a good fit for rock gardens, xeriscapes, sidewalk gardens, and containers. Flowering with the full color spectrum of a summer sunset from apricot and tangerine to pinks and yellows and pure-white, the colorful flowers attract butterflies and bees from spring to fall.

Container planting

"I am curious if this beautiful flower could be container planted? I know this isn't a review But I tried to do the chat but finally gave up from no response. I battle moles and gophers on the daily this time of year. Thank you"

I can't grow Lewisia for love nor money.

"I have tried to grow these 2 or 3 times without success. The plant was healthy on arrival. I placed it in a proper environment. And then it died."

Adorable and vibrant!

"This was one of the plants I was most excited to plant this year in my garden! It was very healthy when it arrived but it started to look like it wasn't going to survive after planting it in my garden. Fortunately, it settled into its new home nicely and started to thrive. Buds started to form in early June (about a month after planting) and they began blooming in mid-June. It is now full of vibrant, beautiful pink flowers. I am very excited to see how it progresses through its first season."
