The Northern Exposure™ series of Heuchera (Coral Bells) was bred and named for exceptional cold hardiness and resistance to rust. Northern Exposure™ ‘Amber’ is a particularly favored variety, known for its longevity in the garden and its ability to enhance containers and garden beds with vibrant color and rich texture. Coral Bells are named for their small, bell-shaped flowers that rise above the foliage, yet most gardeners cultivate them for their diverse array of foliage colors and textures.
Plant Heuchera in rich, well-drained soil and avoid wet, waterlogged areas. Once established, NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ ‘Amber’ prefers slightly drier conditions and overwatering can lead to root rot. Ensure that the crowns are not buried during planting. This foliage plant thrives in full sun to full shade, but benefits from afternoon shade in hotter climates to prevent leaf scorch.
This deer-resistant perennial is well-suited for containers and mass plantings alike, where its foliage and flowers make a striking impression. Useful in shady rock gardens, small spaces, and along borders as well, this versatile native cultivar knows no bounds.
