Exclusive. Gazania krebsiana ‘Scarlet Tanager’ (Scarlet Tanager African Daisy) is a cold hardy perennial Gazania grown for its large, incredibly scarlet flowers that appear in mid-spring and again in the fall after the heat of summer is over. Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric).
3-4" tall x 10-14" wide. Gazania krebsiana ‘Scarlet Tanager’ (Scarlet Tanager African Daisy) is a color variant of Gazania ‘Tanager’ discovered by horticulturist David Salman nearly a decade ago, but only recently has High Country Gardens begun propagating it. The large scarlet flowers begin in mid-spring and reappear in fall after the heat of summer has passed. A small-growing perennial species, it is an ideal choice for the edges of gravel pathways. Exclusive.
Planting & Care
Tips For Growing Gazania (African Daisy)
Gazania (African Daisy) is a genus of African wildflowers known for their showy, daisy-like flowers.
Preferred growing conditions:
Plant in a fast draining, infertile soil with full sun. Avoid clay soils. Mulch with gravel or not at all.
Water regularly for the first 2 to 3 months to establish new transplants. Thereafter, infrequent but deep watering is adequate.
The plants benefit from deadheading to extend the blooming period and limit reseeding where it's not desirable.
Fertilize lightly in the fall with a half and half blend of Yum Yum Mix and good quality compost.
Special comments:
Gazania are typically short lived perennials and gardeners should replace tired plants every 3 or 4 growing seasons. Gazania are willing re-seeders and can be encouraged to do so by mulching with gravel.
Reinvigorate the plants in mid-spring by vigorously scratching out the dead foliage to reveal new leaves emerging from the crown. Don't cut the plants back to the ground as this can kill them.

"I grow it in the dry area in my front garden this spring , growing fast , and is drought tolerance . the flower is scarlet red and attractive . without flower , it just look like weed. don't know if it can pass through 100s summer ."

Healthy and Hardy!
"I planted these last fall and it's now early April in Colorado. These plants not only survived the winter but they are thriving! They were good size when I received and planted them and they have already more than doubled in size. I am excitedly awaiting their bloom time. Based on the health of the early plant, I have no doubt they'll be lovely."
— LaVonne (5/5)
