Description

Gaura has come to go by a number of common names, including Apple Blossom Grass, Wandflower, Bee Blossom, and even just Gaura. Whatever you call it, the plant keeps slender leaves shaped like long teardrops at its base and eagerly produces delicate-looking, four-petaled flowers on slender stems that sway in even a slight breeze. 'Gauriella™ Bicolor' features flowers in a striking pink and white bicolor, much less common than the typically white blooms seen in horticulture. Also unique to this plant is a compact growth habit, making it excellent for container and patio culture as well as narrow and small garden spaces. One secret to growing Gaura that is often missed: while these plants tolerate drought well, they revel in soils that are irrigated deeply during the heat of summer. It is worth noting that the genus Gaura was recently absorbed into the larger genus Oenothera and some nurseries have begun to adopt this change on plant signage. At locations where the name has been changed, this species, formerly called Gaura lindheimeri will appear as Oenothera lindheimeri.
