30" tall x 18" wide (seed propagated). Happy are the gardeners with 'Amber Wheels' rolling in their gardens. This dazzling blanket flower, was originally discovered growing in Westcliff, CO by Larry Vickerman. Seed was given to Jelitto Perennial Seed where it was bred to produce this beautiful strain. It is an extremely showy and long-lived cultivar that is an improvement over our previously offer variety 'Indian Yellow.' Maturing by its second year in the garden, the plant produces an abundance of large flowers with frilled, deep-yellow petals that surround an amber-red center . Keep deadheaded to prolong bloom. Grows readily in well-drained garden soils of average fertility; avoid heavy clay.

"Beautiful plants. Hopefully will bloom this year."
"We allow them all winter!"
"This is a very robust selection of this beautiful native. It blooms in the spring for a month or so, then reblooms(especially if deadheaded after the first spring bloom) again for a couple months in late summer. It needs no supplemental water after just a few months, and spreads a small bit via roots and a good bit via seed. Plants are short lived(3-5years usually), but you can always just move some seedlings around, and reproduction a small bit vegetatively means you always have plants in the essentially the same place anyways. Always all kinds of bee species and butterflies on this plant. Also a great plant to make bouquets with for the ladies in your life."
"I was attracted to the splash of red at the center of this lovely flower. I like the contrast of the bright and cheerful colors and know that my visiting hummingbirds will be attracted to the colors also. . . . as will the bees and butterflies that visit. I seldom plant red flowers as they seem too intense. . . but his combo really caught my eye. I love that High Country Gardens offers unique and beautiful plants to enrich our garden experiences! I would definitely recommend this plant as an easy care - and beautiful addition to any type of garden."
"While Giallardia aristata is commonly sold at nurseries for its large attractive blooms that have a long blooming season and good drought tolerance, this variety is very hard to find. When I go to medicine bow national forest in southeast wyoming in mid July, I always see these rising above the heights of the other flowering plants, stealing the show, so finding this native variety here was a true delight. I only give 4 stars instead of 5 because I bought 3 plants, and only one is blooming the first year, oddly enough the only one that gets only morning sun and afternoon shade has tons of blooms, and the two in full sun have no blooms…from what I've collected most gaillardia are sun lovers? Either way, I'm sure all will bloom next season within my native garden."
"This plant has done well. Amazing flowers."
"I put this plant in 3 years ago. Normally I pay close attention to required soil, size of plant and bloom time. I think I bought it as part of a collection and didn't do my homework. The first year, no blooms. But the next year, the sucker got huge and wouldn't stop blooming, and this, after I planted it in moderately amended clay soil, which I realized too late was not a good soil to use. It really spread and took over the area I usually plant a few annuals. Required only weekly watering and I live in a dry southwestern area."
"lovely plant that I had high hopes for using. The first summer it did great, this summer was not quite a no-show, but was really a brief bloomer. Disappointing!"
