Our Fabulous Flowers & Foliage Shade Pre-Planned Garden provides season-long interest with a superb combination of attractive foliage and beautiful flowers. This garden is an excellent choice for planting on the shady north or northeast side of a house, by a tall fence, and in areas shaded by buildings, tall trees, and mature shrubs. It includes a mix of North American native plants as well as plants from around the world that thrive in low light conditions.

Our Plant By Numbers layout map makes planting and placement a breeze. Printed on 100% recycled, plastic-free paper, the map allows you to easily place your plants in the landscape with enough room to grow, providing professionally designed results with no hassle.

For best results, we recommend planting with Yum Yum Mix and Superthrive Vitamin/Hormone Plant Growth Stimulant

Planting and Caring for Pre-Planned Gardens & Collections

Soil Preparation: Remember that proper soil preparation is the key to healthy, vigorous blooming perennials. Use Yum Yum Mix and a high quality compost at recommended rates to prepare the soil. Inoculate the plant roots with Plant Success Organics™ Soluble Mycorrhizae Root Inoculant.

Planting: Plant according to the mature size of the plant. Don’t be tempted to put the plants too close based on their size in the pots. They’ll need the space to grow and fill in the expected area.

Fertilizing: Once annually in mid-fall, after plants begin to go dormant. Use Yum Yum Mix at recommended rates to improve the soil and provide essential plant nutrients.Use it with high quality compost, mix half and half by volume and spread on top of the soil. Scratch it in lightly and water thoroughly. It is also beneficial to treat the plant roots with Plant Success Organics™ Soluble Mycorrhizae Root Inoculant if you didn’t do so at planting time. (Inoculation only needs to be done once.)

Mulching: In arid climates mulching is very beneficial. Coarse textured composts, shredded leaves, pine needles and composted bark are all excellent mulch materials. Apply to a depth of 1-2 inches. Replenish annually (or as needed).

Really did great

"I planted this garden last year in TN after moving into a new home and having an area that gets shade. Coming from TX I had little experience w a shade garden. The plants were kind of small (for the area I planned) but I just went with it. The plants did really well and filled out fantastically. The sedge was probably the only one that grew the least (but also said it grew slow). I think I added maybe 2 or 3 extra plants to fill the size of the garden. Going into spring I see the Columbine has gone nuts - I added a few extra of this plant. The lambs ear are the size of small low bushes and look great. The lamium is small so if you supplement w a few extra plants I'd add them as they are attractive. The spot I planted definitely gets more sun as the season went on but it didn't hinder the growth. I threw in some geraniums, hydrangea in the back and phlox and it's going to be a pretty garden this season."

I would buy this product again

"This was an unusual year and, because of that, most of the plants arrived a month late and the remaining plants arrived two months late. They were all very small. However, since being planted they have thrived and some have flowered. I did lose three of them but the others are doing well. I planted them with yum yum mix and made sure to keep them well watered. I anticipate that they will all survive the winter because they have grown and look healthy and will continue to grow next year."

I love this shade garden

"I was struggling to keep plants alive in a shady side yard garden so I decided to try this shade pre-planned garden. It looks beautiful and the plants are thriving even in the dry heat of Colorado summer! I was especially impressed in the great condition the plants arrived in, all ready to be planted.
