Description
2004 Plant Select® Winner 8" tall x 24" wide (cutting propagated). 'Seafoam' is a textural dream come true with its frothy curled silver foliage. I love to use it as a vigorous groundcover in hot, sunny areas to plant under taller perennials like Russian Sage, 'Moonshine' Yarrow and 'Grosso' Lavender. 'Seafoam' will occasionally bloom with attractive silver and yellow flower spikes. Like all ornamental herbs, plant in well-drained, low fertility soils. This keeps the foliage gray and curly. NOT RECOMMENDED for planting in HOT, HUMID regions; the woolly foliage will "melt" in the humidity. Originally introduced from England by Lauren Springer Ogden. Cut back by half in mid-spring. Deadhead to keep tidy. Spreads underground. Dig out stems if plant spreads too wide.

Super great plant
"I REALLY like this plant and just bought my second bunch of them for a new section of garden. The ones I planted last spring have grown well and thrived in our hot sunny climate. I even moved one during a 90+ degree heat wave (probably not smart), and it didn't even faze it. I love the silvery green color, and find that it looks good with many other garden plants – some that contrast with it, and others that are also silvery such as lavender. Mine were so happy they grew these tall spikey things (21""+) which surprised me, but HCG said it was OK to just snip them off to restore a more compact appearance."

Unique and Pretty
"I purchased this plant about 8 years ago from HCG. Since then it has been thriving on a hot southern exposure with no extra watering here in CO. Its grown and spread. I really like its fine foliage and scent. It can grow to be quite broad, so this year, I am trimming it way back as it now overhangs a pathway. I will be purchasing another one for a hot, dry spot in my yard. It also drops alot of foliage in the autumn at frost, so I find its best not surrounded with landscape fabric/rock mulch. . . . but, rather in a spot I leave simply bark mulched."

Surprise! It Survives!
"When I first planted this sage. . . it seemed to adapt at first to the clay soil here in Northeastern Arizona. Then, with the summer and winter here in the high desert/mountain area in the White Mountains. . . this plant seemed to disappear. But that wasn't the case, and the curlicue sage had gone dormant just below the ground surface. This spring, the plant started to root and take hold with its shoots coming through the surface. They were alive and green! I was amazed and surprised. This plant is healthy and hardy! If this curlicue sage can made it here. . . it can make it anywhere!"
