In fall, foliage shifts to a warm apricot hue. Also known as Winter Currant, this California native displays edible inky black berries that attract birds. This fragrant, showy shrub is a great choice for small yards and patio gardens.

Pollinated by hummingbirds, it is an essential early season nectar source for them when migrating north. Plant it in compost enriched garden loam with shade from the afternoon sun. Taller growing that wide, this shrub is a great choice for small yards and patio gardens. The leaves exude a delightful fragrance, deterring deer. Introduced by Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in California. Underplant 'Claremont' with Heuchera (Coral Bells), Aquilegia chrysantha (Golden Columbine) and Festuca x 'Siskiyou Blue (Festuca grass). Prune after flowering if desired.
