Description
Antennaria dioica ‘Rubra’ (Pink Pussytoes) is a resilient native cultivar with charming fuzzy pink flowers that attract bees and butterflies from spring through summer. Each blossom cluster resembles the soft pads of a cat, which is how the plant got its common name. ‘Rubra’ forms a tough, low-lying carpet of silvery-grey foliage and is perfect for adding color and texture to rock gardens, alpine troughs, and between paving stones.
Antennaria dioica is native to the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including parts of North America, Asia, and Europe. It’s found growing in dry mountain grasslands in full sun and rocky, infertile soils. This drought-tolerant perennial performs best in bright, cool summers and generally dislikes hot, humid conditions, making it ideal for rock gardens, hellstrips, and other dry, sunny locations. After blooming, trim or mow the flower stems to keep it tidy. In spring, you can easily divide it to propagate new plants and spread its beauty throughout your garden.
