Overview
Award-winning Phedimus kamtschaticus (Orange Stonecrop) is a mat-forming groundcover with spoon-shaped green foliage generously covered with star-shaped yellow flowers. After late summer, flowers form seed heads that gradually age to russet, and as the weather turns colder, leaves are tinged with red. Once established, this resilient perennial thrives in dry, lean soils. An excellent choice for a groundcover, rock garden, container, or crevice garden, it’s a striking addition to a xeriscape.

Description

Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society, Phedimus kamtschaticus (Orange Stonecrop), formerly Sedum kamtschaticum or Kamschatka Sedum, is a stand-out for xeriscaping. It’s an excellent groundcover, requiring only average to lean soils, good drainage, and full sun. Drought tolerant once established, it combines beautifully with other low-growing Sedums to create carpets of color. It’s an excellent choice for containers or small spaces where it can show off its shifting color palette. When in flower, it’s a bee and butterfly magnet. Deer and rabbit-resistant, it’s an easy choice for areas that require little or no maintenance. Most of the foliage disappears in the winter months but will return in spring. Native to the west coast of China and Russia, it’s named after the Kamchatka peninsula.
