My Agave

"Plan to plant in my rock garden when it gets bigger . Only 3"" wide when you receive it. I thought it would be bigger when I purchased it. However it is doing fine"

NICE SW GROWER

"Parryi's agave is one of the most cold resistant types of Agave. I live in So. Cal in the high desert. I have a number of pups and several medium sized ones growing. The do well with slight watering the first year or two until well rooted. They tolerate mildly cold winters. We get a few inches of snow each winter. Our cold temps are about 20 degrees with an occasionally cold snap of 8 degrees. I would not advise growing where you have colder weather or winters. These are good for high desert or generally dry, arid and warm climates."

Interesting plant

"Like many other succulent lovers I've been looking for the Holy Grail of winter-hardy agaves. I first bought this plant in a larger size. I think it was a quart. I potted it up and overwintered (winter of 11-12) in that pot on the south side of the house outside in northwestern Missouri. It got though it with no problems-but then that was a remarkably nice winter. I moved to southeastern Kansas & put it in my new xeriscape bed on the south side of the house. The soil was amended for drainage & it gets full sun. It got through the winter of 12-13 just fine. However the winter of 13-14 killed the original plant. During the early spring prior to my removal of the dead plant I found that it had sent up three offsets. Since then all three of those have survived and have grown. So if you live in zone 6 with a generous annual precipitation of 40 inches this agave will survive but may never get as big as you would like. I still like this plant."
