Surprise treat!

"These were selected by HCG as a substitute for something else I'd ordered, and I like them better than what I'd planned! A perfect (short) height for the border area where they're planted, a stunning raspberry color, and beautifully pointed petals. I'm looking forward to them settling in and providing years of springtime color!"

On the sidelines yet.

"I'm uncertain whether it's the plants themselves or my planting method. All of them sprouted, but they are quite flimsy and tend to flop over. They receive ample sunlight, and the other bulbs I planted don't exhibit this issue. Additionally, their blooms are short-lived compared to the others. I will not add more until I observe their performance next year."

so sweet

"these tulips lie low to the ground. i bought these, as opposed to regular tulips, because deer ignore them (they devour the more common tulips) i regarded them somewhat begrudgingly as a second-rate option, but fell in love with them when they popped up. i think i will be excitedly searching out more varieties of species tulips next fall to plant."

I love these beauties

"In our area, tulips are like candy for deer. I have to cover all my tulips and even then sometimes they get eaten. These tulips are little gems and well worth the effort. I love them."

They are multiplying happily

"4 years in my garden, and I can see the number of plants have increased in the two places I planted those originally. The flowers are pretty and remains in bloom for multiple days. Definitely different though quite inconspicuous compared to traditional tulips. I need to watch out for deer and make sure to apply repellent right when the plants are emerging. Else I lose them to the hungry monsters as I learnt the hard way during the first two seasons. They are one of the first bloomers in my Zone 6b garden starting from late March continuing for about 3 weeks."

sprightly and sweet

"came up beautifully (planted last fall). soil is very clay, still did great. blooming just after crocuses faded."

Keep coming back!

"These are so great and keep coming back year after year! They are very low to the ground, more like a large crocus than what we normally think of it as a tulip"

Unusual deep maroon color

"These small, short wild type of tulips came up about the same time as the first of the regular tulips. In other words, when the crocus and daffodils were well in bloom. I planted in the fall and win the bulbs started to become active, the ground squirrels went to work destroying everything they could. This little flower could not be daunted though, I found the buds on the ground, disconnected at the base of the stem from the bulb. Thanks a lot, ground squirrels! :-( I brought it inside and put in a little, short cup of water. Within a couple of days it was blooming during the light and then closing during the night. Score one for Crickets! I guess the ground squirrels didn't get them all. I am mostly just interested in survival of the call Leni in the yard, not with Weather every single one blooms the first year. So it's OK that the ground squirrels got some, Especially because these have a tendency to spread and naturalize. The color is an even deeper Rosie purple maroon burgundy than it appears in the photos. It looks like a dark pink, but really it is a richer color than that The color is an even deeper Rosie purple maroon burgundy than it appears in the photos. It looks like a dark pink, but really it is a richer color than that. Truly unusual and I am so happy that I ordered these!"
