2. Prepare your soil by clearing the area of all existing growth.
3. Mix the Wildflower seeds with sand for better visibility.
4. After spreading the seed, we recommend compressing the seed into the soil.

Clove Currant in Tennessee
About Me Professional Landscaper
I planted the three clove currants in a good spot upon arrival. They held on for a while but look like they have completely died. This despite regular watering. I am leaving the twigs in place to see if the plant might come back from the roots next spring. Even tho I have a friend who successfully grows clove currant, I don't think it is well adapted for this area.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Nice shrub, vivid flowers
from Abilene, KS
I planted 3 of these two years ago. The one in my principal flower bed has grown the best. The two in the lawn are a little smaller. The initial habit was ungainly, but they are filling with the help of some pruning early in spring. The flowers are a brilliant yellow and last a long time. The clove scent is pleasant and perfumes the air. I got a couple pounds of currants last year, and the plants are loaded this spring.

I've grown this shrub in Ohio Z6 and New York Z5. The fragrance is strong clove, and can be detected from a distance. The plant is very easy to prune if you would like it to remain smaller. The light green lobed foliage turns red in the fall. It blooms with lilacs, a cheerful 5-petaled yellow. I've had very few suckers on my plant, just 4 after 4 years of growth. Everyone should grow this native shrub!
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
