Comments about High Country Gardens Fallugia paradoxa:
I love this plant, its leaves look like cheerily waving little cartoon hands! It stays green and blooms almost all the time. If you break off the seedheads and bring them indoors, they keep their shape and color indefinitely. This is a true, very hardy native. It is common in the wilderness areas near our southwestern high desert home. We are at about 5000 feet and receive an average of about 15 inches precipitation annually (with long, dry periods between moisture). It can also get very cold, sometimes below zero. Our soil is challenging; very alkaline and sometimes sand, sometimes clay. If Apache Plume can thrive here, it could do well almost anywhere! For more flowers/seedheads and a denser, less random and rangy appearance, trim your specimens. I didn't want to harvest from the wild, so I purchased multiple specimens of this special plant from High Country Gardens. They all arrived healthy, I planted on a hot, dry slope in fall 2016. Spring 2017 they all came back to life and early summer they started blooming, then developing those lovely little seedheads. This continued into November. They even each got larger as well.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

An excellent native

Blossoms are similar to Winecups Poppy Mallow though slightly smaller and white. I often see bees visiting this plant. The seedheads are wonderful. This is a very interesting and attractive native plant, in my opinion.

Though still quite small, this shrub managed to bloom a few times its first year. Very drought tolerant and the rabbits left it alone, yay! Looking forward to some of those cool seedheads next year. Note: I have seen some that were sheared (shorn?) Back severely and they looked awful. I will ho for thd natural look.
Waiting to see
Arrived small, like others in the same order. Not much growth at all in the first year, but these still fared better than many of their boxmates. I imagine it will be several years before these plants are large enough to really enjoy, but they do seem healthy in a hot and dry area.

One of my beds is full sun, with "quick draining" = gravel soil. I have tried many different varieties of plants, and this one is a survivor! It made it through a long, hot, summer with only a few bucketfuls of water, and bloomed continuously. A very pretty addition. I'm thrilled with this one!

I live in Eastern Oregon and planted this during one of our hottest summers on record in the hottest part of my yard. It performed perfectly and I'm looking forward to it sizing up in the coming years.
