How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
36-40" tall. 'Thomas Edison' Dinnerplate Dahlia has huge 8" diameter deep purple flowers and starts blooming in mid-summer when planted in late spring. Dahlias love lots of heat and sun and enjoy a compost-enriched, well-drained garden loam for best performance. Easy-to-grow, Dahlias are a non-stop source of summer cut flowers. Protect them in windy areas by staking. Cold hardy in zones 8-10; in colder zones lift the bulbs in fall and store in a cool place over the winter. Hybridized from plants native to Central and South America.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. "I don't expect this to bloom until early late summer in our region, but so far the vegetative parts are doing great. I am using them in the rear border in a raised bed that is dedicated to annuals that I let reseed each year. In our Zone we will need to take them out at the end of the season and store them. Having them in this location will help me remember. We are looking forward to seeing blooms soon."
"I've had gorgeous cut flower all summer with this dahlia. Lovely color, nice full blooms, super easy to grow. Definitely stake them."
"Gorgeous color, heathy, really a ""wow"" in the garden. Color is deep brilliant purple with lots of highlights."
"This dahlia is a tad bit smaller than the Kevin but bloomed voraciously in my garden. It produced so many blooms that they began to fall and I had to stake them. They are SO beautiful - the color is deep and rich. A must have!"
"The plant produces a lot of very large gorgeous flowers. Plant as soon as possible in cold climates because it will bloom until it freezes. The color is closer to burgandy than plum in terms of shades of purple."
