How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
The exceptional wildflowers in our Rare Southwest Native Wildflower Seed Mix include unusual and hard-to-find plants that ensure your garden or meadow will be bursting with blooms from the very first season, and every year thereafter. Nine annuals, such as the quick-to-bloom Arroyo Lupine, provide first-year color, while the seven perennials, such as the Perennial Lupine, get established to bloom the second season and return each year. Native wildflowers also support native wildlife, including birds and all-important bees, beneficial insects, and pollinators. Planting native wildflowers is one way you can provide food and shelter to help pollinators survive and rebuild their populations. High Country Gardens seed mixes contain 100% seed with no fillers, and all seeds are non-GMO, neonicotinoid-free, and guaranteed to grow.

"I decided to have our FRONT lawn removed and had 5 planting rows installed plus gorilla mulch cedar pathways. Wildflowers are not just for the backyard, High Country Gardens! I sowed these seeds, plus Rare Intermountain Native, Bee Native, and Intermountain Native. Of all the mixes both Rare mixes have provided the most color and most show this first growing year. The close up photo shows Rare Southwest. I planted about 1 pound (!) of seed per row as early as possible to achieve this dense effect, sowing carefully by hand without sand mixed in. I'm covering quite a lot of square footage here. There are some weeds but they tend to be minimal and any grass that grows blends in well. Drip irrigation is used and water is daily for 15 minutes if very hot and dry. This is much less water than the lawn required to stay green. I have just added a tri pod sprinkler since the plants are getting so tall, which I use 2 days a week in lieu of the drip irritation on those 2 days. I highly recommend this seed mix and the other Rare mix, especially if you need color the first year. For a front yard installation, you definitely want color the first year to impress the neighbors :) The Bee mix provides lots of lush green but relatively few flowers in my garden; we'll see about next year. I added SteppeSuns® 'Sunset Glow' to the ends of the cigar-shaped planting beds. The one pictured in the foreground is the only one blooming. The others have either died or are hardly growing above ground at all. I do not recommend these plants. All in all a successful front yard display with no mowing, no hand watering, minimal maintenance and abundant pollinator species."
"Scattered some seeds without mixing into sand first and hoped for the best. I walked over the scattered seeds barefoot to compress, and have watered lightly heading into monsoon season. I've seen every variety of flower listed already starting to come up! The lupine and poppies are stunning and I love that everything blooms at different times so the show is always staggered. Would highly recommend!"
