How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Stachys monieri 'Hummelo' (Betony) was awarded the prestigious title of Plant Of The Year by the Perennial Plant Association in 2019. ‘Hummelo’ also received the highest rating of 22 Stachys studied in the plant evaluation trials at Chicago Botanic Gardens in a trial from 1998-2004. Plant it in average, well-drained soil in a full sun location – though it can tolerate light afternoon shade. It needs moderate water, but once established, it can be somewhat drought-tolerant. This versatile perennial works well in small spaces, rock gardens, and containers, and can also be planted en masse in a drift or grouping, where they can gently spread by stolons to create a nice swath of color and foliage. It is rabbit and deer-resistant. Adding color, texture, and form to the perennial garden, ‘Hummelo’ is an excellent choice for a perennial bed where it blends nicely with Echinacea, Salvia, and Gaura. Stachys is native to Europe and Asia.

"Most of the dirt was not in the containers. The containers should have been individually wrapped to prevent the dirt from coming out. Plants healthy, but a bit tattered from the poor packaging."
"I ordered 4 Hummelo and I was very pleased to see they came very well packaged, not a spec of dirt outside the pots. Plants looked happy and healthy with fantastic root systems - significantly better than another online nursery I had ordered from. They've been planted and now I have to wait and see what happens. But I will absolutely buy again from High Country."
"Well packaged & arrived on schedule. Very healthy looking."
"I ordered this plant to put in a public park extension volunteer prairie. I also ordered additional plants for my yard. Both are extremely hardy. The pollinators are all over this plant in both locations."
"I bought 2 plants, they were small but healthy. The first 2 years after planting, these were only clumps of green leaves close to the soil and nothing else. The third year (to my delight) very tall, purple flower spikes grew from the base clumps and flowered for about 2 months. They were just beautiful. They have morning sun and very good drainage."
