only one plant survived winter

"one wintered over second plant died"

Flourishes under the worst of conditions

"I planted tiny plugs in April 2024 in my south facing backyard in Northern Utah. Soil is full of clay, rock, and lots and lots of root killer. I never amended the soil and these things took off. It's been 5 months and they're tall, wide and require nothing more than water. They're also near the foundation of the house which is painted white so it's HOT. They merged with Rupturewort and Mother of Thyme beautifully."

This is really charming.

"Planted two a few months ago, along with other ground covers, to replace mulch. Very happy with the coverage and the delightful pea-like flowers. #sweepstakes"

Long bloomer

"A nice Scutellaria that's a little more vigorous than most species around here. Starts blooming between early and mid summer with deep purple flowers and goes on all season, haven't hardly watered it, no deadheading, and continuous blooms. Bumblebees visit it fairly often, and surprisingly I've seen hummingbirds go for it quite a few times(I haven't had the camera on hand for that ever though 😭). Pretty small overall in stature, great for; the front of a bed/border, a rock garden, or among other short grasses and plants. Ordered 15 more fore fall planting again this year, hopefully they arrive in good shape…."

I love my skullcap, wish they all survived.

"I planted 6 of these last fall. Only two made it. However, we had record-breaking snow this year so they were all piled under a foot of snow for months, shortly after they were planted. However, the two that survived are FABULOUS plants. Nothing I love more than a plant that blooms continuously and profusely, without needing to deadhead or give any care at all. They are small but gorgeous bloomers, perfect around edges and borders. I am definitely ordering more and will be a bit more careful about protection their first winter. These are in full blasting sun and given little water, and have been blooming nonstop from May thru July so far."

Small but very attractive plant

"I grow primarily for pollinators, and wanted to try this Scutellaria. It arrived in April in good condition and was potted in a four gallon bucket with MiracleGro potting mix. It grew well with six hours of sun a day, and began blooming in mid-May. The flowers are very attractive, a brilliant purple, but no pollinators have been interested. To be fair, I also grow many other plants that pollinators love. This plant is now about 10"" tall and wide, with very pretty green foliage. It might be best grouped with others of this same plant in a large pot or in a raised border."

Much taller than 6""

"My skullcap is thick, healthy and covered with dainty, purple flowers since April and still going. It is now the end of May. It's really beautiful. Survived an unusual 5 degree cold snap and our over 100 degree summers in the Dallas Ft Worth Texas area. I love this plant except that mine is growing over 15"" tall and 2 feet wide in spite of pruning it close to the ground in early spring. I was expecting it to be much more compact based on High Country's description. I'm afraid to prune it too hard."

Vibrant, all-season color

"The plant is exceptional. It is vibrant, quick growing, drought tolerant, and the flowers are exceptionally long-lasting. It blooms in early to mid summer and stays flush without any care or dead-heading. They are dense and provide a great height for a perennial border."
