Most gardeners would consider a perennial that flowers two months or more to have a long season of bloom. 'Butterfly Blue' Scabiosa blows that standard out of the water, starting to flower in mid-spring as plants wake up and continuing until frosty nights in fall force it dormant once more -- well over five months long! Deadheading and regular irrigation will help this plant to keep its breakneck pace of bloom up, though plants do tolerate periodic drought well. A compact growth habit and appeal to butterflies make this little champ a perfect addition to smaller gardens, bed edges, and patio pots where real estate is especially valuable. Butterfly Blue Scabiosa grows well in many types of gardens, including perennial beds and borders, streetscapes, pots, rock gardens, and meadows, where these plants look right at home.
