'Butterfly Blue' Scabiosa blows that standard out of the water, starting to flower in mid-spring as plants wake up and continuing until frosty nights in fall force it dormant once more -- well over five months long! Deadheading and regular irrigation will help this plant to keep its breakneck pace of bloom up, though plants do tolerate periodic drought well. A compact growth habit and appeal to butterflies make this little champ a perfect addition to smaller gardens, bed edges, and patio pots where real estate is especially valuable. Butterfly Blue Scabiosa grows well in many types of gardens, including perennial beds and borders, streetscapes, pots, rock gardens, and meadows, where these plants look right at home.

"I bought two scabiosa and received them about a month ago. I just got them in the ground and they are blooming strong mid-April. Really dainty stems with a pop of lovely lavender on top. I love them already and am going to buy a few more. They seem like a beautiful specimen for my xeric garden and I love that they have a long bloom season. Zone 8b, southwestern Washington state."
