• Phlomis cashmeriana (Kashmir False Sage) is an amazingly beautiful plant with showy spires of bright lavender-pink flowers and unique whorled seedheads
• Huge leaves and stately flower spikes provide architectural interest to the waterwise landscape • Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric)
• A 2004 Plant Select® selection
30-36" tall x 18-24" wide (seed propagated). Native to the drier areas of the western Himalayas and Kashmir, this outstanding performer is right at home in western gardens where its stately architecture, large, handsome gray-green foliage and showy spikes of lavender-pink verticillasters (whorled flower clusters) make Kashmir Sage a highlight of the summer garden. This plant is invaluable for use in both sun and shade. Easily grown in most any soil, including clay, sand and garden loam. You can thank Panayoti Kelaidis of Denver Botanic Garden for his long time advocacy of this undeservedly obscure plant.

Thumbs up
"Two out of three plants arrived healthy; the third was smooshed and a bit straggly. Planted all three and within three days all looked healthy. I figure it'll take another year or so for them to obtain height as depicted, So far, I'm happen with this plant choice."

Very high quality starter plants
"Very healthy looking, packed brilliantly. Plants have acclimated to my Atlanta raised bed with screened native top soil, river sand, crushed shale and plenty of compost. After only 3 weeks, one of the 6 are in bud. Happy so far and hopeful for a mass of healthy plants by next year."

I would buy this plant again
"This plant took off and is producing lots of new leaves. Can't wait to see the flowers and pollinators."

So Happy To Find It For Sale Again!
"I bought my plant around 2013 from HCG's brick and mortar store in ABQ. At that time, it was advertised as a low water, shade loving plant. I didn't treat it well. It didn't receive adequate water and I transplanted it every year the first 3 or 4 years. About 6 years ago it landed in its current place in my garden- in full shade. It is on drip with other low water plants. It took about 3 years before it started to bloom, but those pretty little flowers made me happy. I have looked several times over the years to buy more plants, but could not find them. So I happy to see HCG have them for sale this year."

Goldilocks plant—needs ""just right"" conditions
"I bought three of these four years ago and planted them in a moderately shady location in my east facing front yard. I was specifically looking for something shade tolerant. They obligingly came up every year looking healthy but never got big (stayed around 8"" in diameter) and never bloomed. I moved them to the backyard in the summer of 2021, putting the healthiest one in a moderately sunny location (6 hours of sun), and the other two in an area that gets about 4 hours of sun. The one in the sunnier location is not doing well, one of the ones in the shadier location went bananas and finally bloomed, and its friend two feet away produced the traditional 8"" of healthy leaves. So I can only conclude that they have pretty specific light requirements to really show their stuff. I may move the one that's struggling over next to the one that's happy. I probably won't buy more."

Alive but not thriving in shade
"I bought three of these three years ago to put in a west facing front yard bed that gets dappled shade. They are all healthy appearing but the one that gets the most light is about eight inches across and the one that gets the least is about 5 inches, and they're all less than 6 inches tall. They have not bloomed. I am going to try moving them to a different location with more light to see if they do better. I think the designation of shade -friendly is incorrect."
— Elizabeth (3/5)
It took three years.
"In its third year after what seemed a hopeless first two when I gave it some extra water, it's thriving in a semi shaded but hot afternoon sun along with hyacinth, bearded and siberian iris, lilies of the valley, scilla. They all seem to get along together so why not?"

Beautiful Plant and Flowers
"This was so easy to grow. Attained it's stated height the second year and has beautiful flowers. It has produced numerous new plants also. Very low maintenance. I've seldom watered this plant."
— Lana (5/5)
Lovely color
"I am partial to plants of this color. It filled a spot where I needed height."

Anywhere you have Soil!
"This phlomis will grow anywhere---sun or shade, moist or xeric! Benefits from a little extra water. It has taken a couple of transplants without complaint, but as a result has not yet sized up to the 3'plus I've observed in local Denver demonstraton gardens. Summer flowers are nice, though not overly showy; but the winter presence--tiered fountains of seed heads--is outstanding. Larger foliage is nice contrast to a lot of the fine leaves of many xeric plants. Very easy to grow, tolerant of all kinds of conditions."
