Canby’s Mountain Lover (Paxistima canbyi) Canby’s Mountain Lover (also known commonly as Cliff Green) is an outstanding foot tall shrublet that provides attractive glossy evergreen foliage in beds under trees and other shady spots in the landscape. While it's a rare native from the Appalachian Mountains, the fact that it grows in alkaline, limestone soils make it a good choice for the high pH soils of the western US as well. Plant in the spring to get it established before winter. A tidy, low-spreading groundcover, it doesn't need any shearing to keep it looking good. It is a valuable plant to create habitat for attracting beneficial insects.

"Two arrived in good condition while one was looking like it was struggling. I planted them in a dry area under a large shrub with some morning light and afternoon shade. The two that arrived in good condition seem to be thriving. The one that was struggling is now dry and I don't have high hopes that it will recover."
