Rose Bells Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla vulgaris Rosen Glocke) blooms in early to mid-spring with a showy display of large, deep pink flowers. Native to Europe.
8-10" tall by 8-10" wide. Rose Bells Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla vulgaris Rosen Glocke) is native to Europe, and blooms in early to mid-spring with a showy display of large, deep pink flowers. Once the bees have finished pollinating them, these perennial wildflowers cover themselves with feathery seedheads that hold on the plant for many weeks of ornamental interest. Pasque flower is a superb companion plant for spring blooming bulbs like crocus, miniature daffodils, wildflower tulips and other sun loving bulbs.
Planting & Care
Growing Pulsatilla (Pasque Flower): Plant Pulsatilla plants in well-drained, alkaline soil with full to part sun. In moister areas, Pulsatilla can be planted on sloping beds, hillsides and raised beds to ensure their roots aren't waterlogged in winter. Pulsatilla prefer colder zones (4-8) and aren't a good choice for the southern U.S. Young seedlings can be transplanted; established plants have deep tap roots and should be left in place. Pulsatilla is an ideal companion plant for many early spring blooming bulbs such as crocus, wildflower tulips, and miniature daffodils. Learn more about Growing Pulsatilla (Pasque Flower)

Unique and stunning
"Piet Oudolf uses this flower heavily in the garden he designed on Belle Isle in Detroit and I fell in love with it there. The flowers are a treat, but I might like the fluffy seed heads that follow even more. The foliage is attractive as well. This has held up well in my sunny perennial bed in our front yard."

Healthy plants
"The bumblebees and native bees enjoy having a early blooming flower. The fluffy seed heads are a pretty bonus. Deadhead these if volunteer plants aren't wanted. Great looking foliage all season long."

So precious
"These are very special and short flowers. They are quite large and noticeable for how low they are to the ground! Especially because their foliage is small and inconspicuous. . . the flowers almost appear out of nowhere and seem to almost be floating an inch or two above the ground. Fascinating! It is impossible to decide which is more spectacular, the colorful, fuzzy blooms or the amazing puffball wisp of a seedhead that appears later. I have pasque flowers in every color. These rose bells pink variety didn't bloom until their second spring in our garden. That is the case with many perennials, some even wait for their third year! This is an early bloomer, just after the crocus. We give ours absolutely no special care."

Interesting blossoms
"I planted 5 Pasque flower plants, 2 red, 3 pink, in a red flower bed. They didn't grow much, though the 2 red ones did bloom. The pink ones never bloomed this year."
