How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Prince Of Orange' Oriental Poppy (Papaver orientale 'Prince of Orange') has huge 5-inch diameter orange flowers with a black centers that make this sturdy perennial a late-spring standout in the garden. Easy-to-grow and long lived, 'Prince of Orange' Poppy thrives in a variety of soil types including clay. The plants go dormant in mid-summer, so It's best to combine them with other medium to large growing summer bloomers, like Jupiter's Beard (Centranthus), Daylilies (Hemerocallis) and Asters to fill in, as the poppy ‘disappears’ until re-growing its foliage in the fall.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. "Prince Of Orange came with the house when we bought it over twenty five years ago. It is the easiest of all the Oriental Poppies to grow and transplant that I have grown over the years."
"My fall-planted start survived the zone 5/6 winter and came up with beautiful foliage its first spring. I was even lucky enough to get a bloom in the first year! It's lovely, but the unmistakably RED, rather than orange, shade was a surprise I hadn't counted on in my color-coordinated garden."
"These shipped late Friday night. We had temps in 40s for 2days so I kept them in bag and stored in garage that was in hi 50s. When I planted early monday, they were a little limp. 2 of 3 are growing. I believe they will take. Fingers crossed."
"I use as border plant around a bird bath and flag pole. Beautiful and brilliant color. A sweepstake winner!"
"Hoping this will grow - & within a couple of years, will flower. I will Definitely enjoy this!!"
"The flowers were huge!"
"ordered 6 poppies, 5 are doing great, one plant didn't survive."
"This poppy will steal the show from others for the couple of weeks it is blooming. As with any oriental poppy it will grow slowly, so being patient is the key. The first season I did not get any bloom as the plant was busy establishing. It grew lots of healthy looking leaves. It survived our 6b winter with ease even without any protection. Second season I got two blooms. I was happy too see the color. It was almost fluorescent - the brightest shade of orange. I instantly knew it was going to be a star in my patio border. With every passing year it added more flowers, the last season (4th year since planneted) was the best so far. There were 11 poppies all together and it was a riot of orange on the plant. Each of the blooms last about 2 days but the show continues easily for 2 weeks. The half open buds and the seed pods are equally attractive. I have not fed it with any fertilizer in all it's life, but my garden soil is naturally good with plenty of earth worms and slightly on the alkaline side. I remove the spend leaves and stalk once the plant dies back in mid summer. The included photos are from 2020 (the college) and 2019. Highly recommended. My plant is already setting out new leaves for this season - can't wait for the show."
