A native shrub from the southwestern US, Cercocarpus intricatus (Littleleaf Mountain Mahogany) features attractive silvery evergreen foliage for year-round interest and bird habitat. Its compact size and outstanding durability make it an excellent choice for hedging and xeric landscaping. In mid-spring, the shrub is covered in plumes of tiny pale flowers, which are pollinated by small native bees to create feathery seed tails that catch the afternoon light. A 2009 Plant Select® selection.

Wonderful native shrub for the mountains of southern CO

"I bought 3 of the intricatus 4-5 years ago for the border in my front yard. The border has been decimated by repeated attacks of pocket gophers but they haven't attacked my cercocarpus. I will confess I abandoned the front garden a couple of years ago - except for some annual maintenance on the plants that remained, since the pocket gophers made such a mess of my design year after year. This year I noticed the intricatus are blooming! They are wonderful small shrubs and do well with my Apache Plume and currants and ornamental grasses. We live in a high mountain valley at about 8000' in southern Colorado. Mountain mahogony rock!"
