Marrubium rotundifolium Silver Edged Horehound is one our very best xeric groundcovers for poor soil areas with hot, sunny growing conditions. The soft felted leaves are green with a bright silver underside that curls up to give the leaves a silver edge. Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric).

Tolerant of neglect and aesthetically pleasing

"Have patience- my wimpy plants purchased 3 years ago have matured into a thick carpet of horehound. My yard has a brick like consitency with a bunny infestation, yet the horehound is thriving. I keep buying more. I watered them the first year, and now only in long stretches without precipitation."

Sunny slope groundcover

"I bought several of these for a south facing slope about 5 years ago. They've filled in really nicely. They keep the steep slope in place. The bees love them. And they don't require much water. I came back for more after I started working on the west facing slope in my yard!"

Great plant for a dry area!

"This plant is very happily growing in a tough dry area."

Garden G. (5/5)

Gorgeous and hardy groundcover

"I've had this in my garden for four years now and it's spectacular. It grew to about 24"" square, bigger than I was expecting. As advertised, it's very xeric. It survived recordbreaking heat last summer without any watering through those hottest months and came back big and healthy this spring. (Note that the plant was 3 years old and well-established before then. ) Now that I've cleared out my lawn, I'm buying more of these for the areas that rarely get water. The silver is very striking."

The name is a bit funky but it's definitely not!

"It's my favorite for the high arid, windy, and overall wild climate of Laramie. Space it correctly. As you can see in my attached image, it was crowded and was battling the adjacent plants for space."

2 out of 3 ain't bad

"I ordered three of these in the spring, shipped to Albuquerque. One arrived virtually dead and the other were sad looking but still viable. I planted all three. The virtually dead one died completely but the other two rallied and now in late summer look lush and very attractive, tripled in size. This is a gorgeous plant, so 5 stars for the plant but I took off a star for the DOA plant."

Thriving in Rock Garden

"I bought a couple of these last year, and not only did they survive the winter at 8000 ft, they really thrived and look healthy and happy this year. The bees live them! I bought several more this year and though it takes time for them to become established, I am expecting similar results. Great plant!"

NORMA, G. (5/5)

Great plant for xeriscapes

"Great groundcover for dry areas. Watered the first year only. Very attractive with silver edge. Very low-growing. Tough. Spreads after established. Likes poor soil. Snapped back after horrible hail two years ago and this year. Deer leave it alone. Could not ask for more in a plant here in Colorado. This year it has had no additional water during a horrible drought year. I have ordered more twice."

Beautiful, until pummelled by Hail!

"I Love the texture and color of this plant, and have tried growing it a few times. But a hail storm did it in, sadly!"
