How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Lewisia longipetala 'Little Plum’ sports lively green succulent foliage that is evergreen and can cover some ground once established. In late spring, and often in fall, it flowers with pink-purple blooms tinged with orange upon opening. It flowers profusely once established and attracts birds, bees, and butterflies. Best in a full sun to afternoon sun location, its soil needs are minimal, preferring lean, gravely soils. It can even tolerate cold, wet winters as long as the drainage is good. Deer and rabbit resistant. Native to the western coast of North America, Lewisias are fascinating plants with a unique and special look. 'Little Plum' looks lovely planted among other Lewisia varieties such as ‘Sunset Strain’, ‘Alba-White’, and ‘Little Peach’.

"Amazed that all three of mine survived the Leadville CO winter (zone 5a) at 9600 feet. They are planted in a poor soil with some clay which I amended just a bit, amongst rocks and next to a fountain that mostly does not cast water unless there is wind. Granted, it was a mild winter. They catch south sun in winter, and full sun until about 3 p. m. in summer. One of the three bloomed last year following planting, so we'll see how a growing root system helps them along this year."
"Initially was incorporating into my landscape design, but they just couldn't handle the heat of the desert in NM. And this was before we hit the 100s. Moved them to a pot in partial shade and seem to be recovering."
"It hasn't increased in size much in the last two months, but it started blooming and has been blooming for the last month at least. It receives full sun, and the irrigation hasn't been turned on. I spot water once a week, but it does receive rain."
