How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Owl's Claw is a fabulous mountain wildflower found
throughout the intermountain West in mid-to-high elevation meadows. A vigorous
grower for higher elevations in the West, and cool climate areas of the upper Midwest
and northern New England, it's not suitable for cultivation in hot and muggy
summer climates. In habitat Owl's Claw is often found growing in huge colonies
and makes an unforgettable display with thousands of colorful flowers covered
with pollinators. Also known as Orange Sneezeweed. Grow in the sun or part-sun
locations that have loam or clay soils and provide the plants with average to
moist soil conditions. Suitable for elevations above 7,000 feet. Our plants
originate the mountains on the eastern edge of central Arizona and can be
planted with Phlox paniculata (Tall Garden Phlox), Monarda (Beebalm) and
Campanula rotundifolia (Bluebells).

"I planted this 3 years ago and it is finally blooming! It's absolutely beautiful. It started blooming the end of April here with day temps in the low 80's and night temps in the 40's. I fully expect it to peter out in the heat of the summer but perhaps there it will rebloom in the fall."
"I just planted these a few months ago and despite the very high temps we've been having, they are still green and lush. They haven't bloomed but they might not bloom until next year anyway (?) but the plants themselves are still healthy and strong. This is a great, hardy, native plant."
"I bought the owl's claw this spring and it's been growing like crazy. No flowers this year but looking forward to seeing the yellow surprise next season. Zone 5- Metro Denver"
