•Lonicera sempervirens 'Major Wheeler' (Honeysuckle Vine) is a native non-stop bloomer with showy clusters of orange-red flowers from late spring through summer
• The profuse tubular blooms are irresistable to hummingbirds providing them with natural nectar all season long
• Train this easy to grow cultivar along a trellis or pergola for a beautifully fragrant privacy screen
• 2010 Plant of the Year
6-8' x 5-10' wide. Lonicera sempervirens 'Major Wheeler' (Honeysuckle Vine) puts on a hummingbird display unrivaled by any other Honeysuckle variety. Garden trials have demonstrated that this is the most profuse bloomer of its species. With its mass display of thin tubular, red-orange flowers from late spring through the end of summer and highly disease resistant foliage, 'Major Wheeler' Honeysuckle is a low care, high color addition to the landscape. Bring hummingbirds up close to your patio by training 'Major Wheeler' onto a nice trellis or pergola. A fast growing vine, use it to quickly cover unsightly fences. Partially evergreen in southern climates, deciduous in colder zones of the north. Because this blooms on old and new wood, there is no need to prune other than to shape the vine once blooms have passed. 2010 Plant of the Year.

Easy and beautiful
"I’m very pleased by how well this plant has done. Planted in fall 2024 and now May 2026, it’s healthy and expanding with lots of blossoms already. Bringing me lots of joy on the north side garden. Can’t wait for the hummingbirds and butterflies to find it!"
— Brook (5/5)

MOST GORGEOUS AND VALUABLE POLLINATOR IN MY GARDEN
"If only I could give this 20 stars! It surely is the star in my garden! I live in zone 8b in southern New Mexico - the Chihuahuan Desert. This year, 2026 was our first winterless winter. We literally had a week of winter temperatures in the teens and twenties and that was it. This March we’ve logged a record high temperature of 90 or high 80’s every day. What do my two 3-year old Major Wheelers look like? Big balls covered with gorgeous scarlet-orange trumpets. I did mulch with a nice layer of compost in late October, since we used to have winters, and the plants are so happy, they bloomed all winter long. They are in full, desert sun and some winds and they’re gorgeous. The hummingbirds know where we live and have returned this third year. I bought 2 more plants this year and they just arrived in great, robust condition. I absolutely DO deep water them so that the soil never dries out completely in the torrid summers and now springs and it’s such a joy to see them rewarding my puny efforts with their beautiful blooms! Remember, these plants want full sun 6 - 8hrs. a day!"

The major wheeler is just
"The major wheeler is just gorgeous. Very mature and healthy. The Redbirds looks ok. It’s a little droopy. But I potted it up and have it in my greenhouse to rest a bit."

Blooming after 9 months
"I planted this vine in September and this picture was taken the following June. It was about 6 inches tall and it now over a foot with many arms. It wintered well. It receives a 1/5 gallon of drip irrigation every 6 days. It does receive some dappled afternoon shade, but it doesn't seem to mind."

A winner
"I have had 2 of these vines for a few years. With very hot, dry summers, and they have died back some a couple of times. Even though it's taking a while for them to fill in and get long, they always bloom. They are in large planters (to protect from gophers) and are being trained over trellises. I'm sure if they were in the ground, they would be in a better situation, but not if the gophers eat them."
