Description
The Northern Exposure™ series of Heuchera (Coral Bells) was bred and named for exceptional cold hardiness and resistance to rust. Northern Exposure™ ‘Red’ is a star attraction, featuring bold burgundy-red leaves with fluted edges. These rounded leaves form a dense, tidy mound, creating a striking contrast against the greenish-yellow flowers that bloom from spring to summer.
While Coral Bells are named for these small, bell-shaped flowers that rise above the foliage, most gardeners cultivate them for the diverse array of foliage colors and textures.
Plant Heuchera in rich, well-drained soil and avoid wet, waterlogged areas. Once established, NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ ‘Red’ prefers slightly drier conditions and overwatering can lead to root rot. Ensure that the crowns are not buried during planting. This foliage plant thrives in full sun to full shade, but benefits from afternoon shade in hotter climates to prevent leaf scorch.

"I was very excited to get these. So was the urban deer herd. When I contacted HCG to let them know that they were not quite so deer resistant, I was told that it takes the plants a year to develop the bitter compound that deter the deer. That would have been quite helpful to know."

"I purchased 4 Heuchera Northern Exposure plants. All arrived in excellent condition. I planted them in one of my pollinator gardens. I look forward to seeing them flower next year. Pollinators love my other Heuchera plants. The red color of this Heuchera really stands out against the green plants around them. I started this pollinator garden in early spring this year."

"These have been in the ground for at least a month or more and don't appear to be alive at this point. Laying flat on the ground, not growing, though some leaves appear healthy. Watered regularly, fed once. Still not much going on. Will wait and see, but looking for other alternatives now."
