"I have difficulty with echinacea because out west you have to be patient. They rarely do anything the first year unless planted in perfect conditions. I've had many either dry up, get root rot, or just do nothing. I planted two of the pow wows in a sunny location with a few hours of shade and water only every few days. They are both doing great, tiny but already blooming. That rarely happens with coneflowers for me so I'm always happy if I get blooms in year 1. They seem to like the pine mulch I used."
"Like other comments say- you get a small plant, but with a good root ball, that will likely only grow a few flowers the first year if planted in the spring, that might not even actually flower(I. E being a member of asteraceae and that it's actually a capitulum of many small flowers that look like one flower). Mine Grew the Daisy rays and what not, but then the actual flowers never produced pollen or anything, and made me wonder about the health of the plant. Year 2 came and it was much taller and produced many flowers, but was kind of spindly and didn't look great health wise to me still. Year three now though and it grew in a great compact fashion, and is a beauty in the evening light. Have patience with echinacea as they always seem to take awhile for me before they look like what you see in pictures and other peoples yards you might see them in than decide to plant because of."
"We thought it was dead after a slow start and drought but this year it came back and is thriving. It's only about 8"" tall, so better for that front row, but bright white and hardy now."
"Planted late last year, barely flowered but be patient. Survived an unusual hard freeze flowing early very hardy!"
